Cronulla fires up the frenzoids

They’re brilliant our tabloid press. Our self-appointed moral guardians who’re there to make sure we understand right from wrong. Black from white etc.
Shame and Disgrace they scream in relation to the recent riots in Cronulla, just in case you were feeling inclined to pop in the car and drive over there for a bit of a barney, but were wondering how it might look on your CV.
For The Daily Telegraph, alcohol seems to have played a role, but strangely didn’t add to the fun as it did a few days back.
Alcohol remained on sale at a liquor store in the mall near the understaffed Cronulla police station throughout most of the day, though many of the rioters were obviously drunk and bottles were raining on police officers whenever they moved to protect mob victims.
The New South Wales Premier is not doing enough and just making motherhood statements apparently
Premier Morris Iemma needs to show real resolve and address the core issues of cultural conflict instead of making motherhood statements about the law. He has failed his first real law-and-order test.
What the Premier said was:
It does not matter who causes trouble, lawlessness will not be tolerated. There will be no compromise in upholding the law.
and what The Tele recommends is
The police service must review its crowd control tactics and act more vigorously if confidence is to be restored and police officers are not to be publicly humiliated by bottle-throwing drunks.
So the Tele is calling for a REVIEW. That’s the kind of decisive thinking we need in these chaotic times.
They’re also calling for a ban on alcohol consumption in public
A simple first step might be a total ban on alcohol consumption on the beach and surrounding streets.
Which is fine by me but I’m surprised they’re advocating something already in use in that well known over-policed red-mist state, Victoria.
Of course in this day and age, a zero tolerance approach to things is mandatory, so now we need a zero tolerance approach to tolerance.
a zero-tolerance position toward those who claim they live by different cultural standards.
But then The Tele, in its practical can do way, wheels out the real solution.
ABOVE ALL however, we must restore the decency and fairness for which Australia is renowned
There – that should fix the problem.
On a final note the Eureka Flag gets a mention in both the Tele and the Herald Sun. Just to make sure the symbolism is properly understood, and to make sure that any chance of having our historical heritage recognised by the flags act gets short shrift.
But the appearance of dozens of flags, including the Eureka banner, along The Kingsway leading into Cronulla warned of events to come
